by Avatar in Healthy Foods, Informative October 27, 2020

The effects of tamasic food has also been visible the declining health globally.

Coincidentally, tamasic food is one of the most adaptable food types in the last couple of decades.

Why tamasic food is impacting the health?

And what to do reduce the effects of tamasic food on our health?

Understanding the doshas – Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas, which will help you understand the basic reasons why they are important in our daily lives.

And why understand Tamasic lifestyle matters to really.

Effects of tamasic food on our mind and body:

Ignorance, inactivity, carelessness, and delusion arise when Tamas is predominant.

The tamas is mostly termed as inertia, ignorance and delusion.

Tamasic diet leads to mental dullness, physical numbness and inertia.

Tamas is not only influenced by the food we have, but also influenced by the chef’s mindset and mood when they were cooking.

A Tamasic person is unable to take clear decisions which makes them insecure and have intense mood swings.

Most bad habits made by Tamasic people are excess sleep, excess eating, and this leads to loose calm.

Here is the tamasic food list which you must avoid at every cost:

Candies

Meat

Junk foods like Burgers, Pizza

Alcohol

Icecream

Eggs

Tobacco

Frozen/fried Food

Fast Food

Any type of stale food

Highly spicy food

Coffee and other highly caffeine based beverages which include sugar

Sodas

Packaged food

Food with artificial flavours and preservatives

Most of the frozen foods

Every fried food with high sugar

What to do about the Tamas diet for a healthier living?

In the modern day living where we socialise so much, and access to food under various circumstances like travelling, at work etc

It is really difficult to catch up with the sattvik and the rajasic food everytime

And if we really understand the balanced dosha diet then you can accommodate up-to 20% of your diet with tamasic food.

What that means, you eat tamasic food but not beyond 20% of the entire diet of the day.

And the remaining 80% must contain at-least 40% of sattvik food.

You can choose to have 50% Sattvik, 30% Rajasic, and 20% Tamasic

I would in fact suggest you to go 100% Sattvik at-least once a week. (2 weeks a month you have Ekadashi).

And have not more than 10% of tamasic during your remaining days where you are not on pure Sattvik diet.

This way, you allow your body some cushion for the instances and surprises where you’d have tamasic food.

You want to enjoy your food at times right?

This helps you keep control of your overall monthly tamasic proportion to 20% or lesser which will help you stay healthier and happier.

Including desi cow ghee, natural herbal teas, and replacing your refined sugar with natural sugar will really help turn your dosha charts very easily.

Because refined oils, refined sugars, and refined oils are just happening for your health.

And we have them on a daily basis.

Transforming choices for the basics will transform your overall family health.
